Arts

At St. John's the place of the arts in the church is restored to its historical setting. As God created all that there is to see with all its beauty and splendor, so St. John's encourages local artists to tap into that creative force and reflect it in various media.

For Future Art Shows, Check with the Church Office, 301-689-6634 from 8 am - 1 pm Monday-Friday.

June’s Artist – George Small, Photographer

Mr. Small has been honored to have photographs appear internationally in the European Earth Day Butterfly Exhibit, Washington County Museum of Fine Art Photographic and local galleries to name a few. His show ran from June 8th  until the 28th. The opening reception was held Friday, June 11th from 5-7PM.  Mr. Small has visited many countries in order to capture the beauty of its butterflies and birds that only that part of the world has to offer. The colors are strikingly different from what God has placed in our surroundings. We have viewed not only his work, but the work of our Lord.

April 2010 Art Show

St. John’s hosted The Greater District Chapter 121 of the Colored Pencil Society of America this month.  The opening reception was held the evening of April 10, 2010 from 5pm until 7pm.

The Greater District Chapter 121 of CPSA was founded in 2008 by Donna Whitford Housel, along with charter members Joan Lease, Anita Teter, Lenore Lancaster, Joy Sanders, Nancy Small, and Toby Feddis.  This organization was formed to promote and educate the public about colored pencil as a fine art medium.  It now has twenty members who meet four times a year, the second Saturday of the months of March, June, September, and December.  The meeting location is the Allegany Arts Council, 9 N. Centre Street, Cumberland, Md.  New members are welcome.

Anyone interested in more information may contact President Donna Housel, greatercumberland-dct121@cpsa.org.
